Zanzibar began its existence in 1992 in Liberty Plaza at 1714 G Street, NW, one block from the White House. We were formed as a niche venue catering primarily to the international clientele who worked close by at the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, and to customers who appreciated the richness of cultures unlike their own. At the time, our music format was exclusively “world-beat.” We played hit tunes from the Caribbean, the African Diaspora and Latin America, and featured live shows with artists from those areas. |
